Cristian Mejía

Musician from Costa Rica (Central America), licentiate degree in music education, singer-songwriter, guitarist, music composer and body percussionist. He has used body percussion as a didactic tool in his pedagogical work as a music teacher. He has been investigating the techniques used for the execution of body percussion in the different cultures around the world. He was honored with the Darmasiswa scholarship provided by the Indonesian Ministry of Education.

On this trip, he carried out studies on ethnomusic and extensive research and fieldwork on the islands of Bali, Java and Sumatra; studying the body percussion practices present in the different tribes.

Nowadays, he continues the promotion of body percussion through various projects. “Body Percussion Without Barriers” is a program through provided for groups of children, adolescents, and adults from marginal urban areas in Costa Rica.
